Details of the practicalities of this trip seem overdue. You will find more on train times as I progress here. I used the excellent Seat61 site to plan the route and connections. An Interrail ticket proved the most streamlined and cheapest option, more details here.

    I’ve corrected the links in the post. I had to rush out to catch the bus to Aleppo or risk being stuck in Antioch yet again.
