Turkish TV

25 Nov 2008 / 1 Comment / in Journeys

On the bus back to Istanbul, they’re showing some kind of Turkish TV drama.  The hero, Ibrahim, is a Turkish soldier fighting in the mountains.  He’s captured by the enemy who are distinguished by scarves looped round their necks. I guess they’re meant to be Kurdish fighters.

The leader roughs up Ibrahim and his mate pretty graphically – pistol-whipping them and hold a gun to their heads several times.   Our hero endures all this with a beatific look on his face.

Back home, his mother dreams her son is fatally wounded.  A moment later Ibrahim is shot at point blank range, just as his brave Turkish soldier friends arrive to rescue him.

It’s all a bit much for mid-morning viewing.

Better than daytime TV in the UK though!
